Terms of Reference (ToR) for the position of Treasurer on the GNBU steering committee.

Introduction:

Girls Not Brides Uganda (GNBU) is seeking a volunteer treasurer to join the GNBU Steering Committee, a crucial role that involves overseeing the management of GNBU finances and ensuring financial transparency and accountability. 

Purpose: To ensure the financial integrity and responsible management of GNBU resources by guaranteeing sound financial practices and reporting, advising on financial strategy, and potentially assisting with fundraising efforts to achieve GNBU objectives.

Requirements for the position of Treasurer.

  1. The aspiring organisation must be a registered and fully paid up (FY 2025) GNBU member, demonstrating commitment and understanding of GNBU NP’s vision and mission.
  2. The aspiring organisation must present proof of financial capacity to manage GNBU NP resources. It must have received and utilised at least USD 20,000 in grants in a year for the last two years and shall be asked to present the most recent annual program reports and externally audited financial statements for the previous two years.
  3. The organisation’s representative must have sound knowledge of finance and accounting and must be able to provide sound financial expertise for the running of GNBU NP
  4.  The organisation’s representative must have no record of committing or being involved in any form of fraud.

Term of Office: The Treasurer shall serve a maximum of two terms of three years each.

Roles and Responsibilities of the Treasurer: The Position holder is mandated with provision of sound financial oversight expertize to the committee, and on behalf of the membership.

Specifically, s/he shall: 

  1. Support the budgeting process of GNBU NP and monitoring the annual budget, ensuring responsible financial planning and resource allocation.
  2. Sign off GNBU NP budgets and financial reports before submission.
  3. Shall present financial reports to the steering committee and at the AGM on behalf of the committee.
  4. Review and recommend the reports to the Steering Committee.
  5. Advise the steering committee on the GNBU fundraising strategies and activities, contributing to GNBU’s financial sustainability.
  6. The organisation will nominate a senior member of staff or the team leader to assume the role of GNBU NP treasurer. Such a nominee must have financial management experience, and will therefore take the role of GNBU focal person of that organization. 
  7. Any other roles that may be assigned by the committee from time to time.
