About the GPECM project

Strengthening the Capacities of Civil Society Organizations to Contribute Effectively to Ending Child Marriage in Uganda (August 2025 to June 2027).

Project Introduction and Overview

Girls Not Brides Uganda (GNBU): The Ugandan Partnership to End Child Marriage, in collaboration with the Global Partnership, is leading a strategic initiative titled "Strengthening the Capacities of Civil Society Organizations to Contribute Effectively to Ending Child Marriage in Uganda (August 2025 to June 2027)". This project aims to accelerate efforts to address gender inequalities—the root cause of child marriage and teenage pregnancy—by tackling negative social norms and practices that deny the human rights of girls and women.

By strengthening coordination among Civil Society Organization (CSO) network members and partners, the initiative seeks to empower girls and women, providing them with a voice to influence gender-transformative social change and achieve self-reliance.

Priority Objectives and Expected Outcomes

The project is structured around three main objectives: influencing policy and budget allocation at national and sub-national levels, promoting positive social and cultural norm change through gender-transformative approaches, and strengthening the institutional capacity of GNBU and its partners.

Key expected outcomes include increased domestic resource mobilization for the National Strategy to End Child Marriage, and the adoption of gender-equitable attitudes within communities to reduce the acceptance of early marriage. Ultimately, the project strives to create an environment where girls have increased agency and awareness of their rights, supported by robust legal frameworks and systems that effectively prevent child marriage by the end of 2027.
