Financial Literacy and Income Generation Skilling

Name of Organisation: Just Like My Child Foundation

We successfully conducted financial literacy training sessions for Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW), aimed at equipping them with practical financial skills in saving, budgeting, entrepreneurship, and collective action. These sessions also encouraged the formation of Village Saving and Loan Associations (VSLAs).

A total of 50 girls participated in the training, drawn from two safe spaces located in Nakaseeta and Kikuumango, within Kasangombe Sub-county, Nakaseke District. By the end of the training, 39 girls had made a decision to save UGX 500 per week within their respective groups. In addition to financial literacy, the participants engaged in hands-on income-generating activities, including baking, bag-making, liquid soap production, and hand-sewn reusable menstrual pads.

These marketable skills are intended to help adolescent girls and young mothers earn income to meet their basic needs. Notably, many of the skills were taught by the girls themselves, fostering a culture of peer mentorship and collaborative learning.
