Hand over of scholarstic materials to learners with disabilities
With Funding from the Girls First Fund we purchased and handed over scholarstic materials to 55 leaners with disabilities at Buyiga Island and 15 in Mpigi Town Council, Mpigi district. The activity was intended to address the increasing number of school drop outs and teenage pregnancies in the district.
We gave them school bags, books, pens, pencils, geometry sets, rubbers, rulers and sanitary towels. This is one of the strategies we employ to keep girls in school so that they are able to stay and complete school in a bid to prevent child marriage.
The local council one leaders called on other organisations to also reach out to the island because of the great need for support to enable children keep in school. The leaders promised to follow up enrollments and retention in schools.
