#Hike4GirlsUg campaign
Name of Organisation: RAISING TEENAGERS UGANDA
The 8th Annual #Hike4GirlsUg campaign took place on 19th July 2025 as we climbed the iconic Tororo Rock in Eastern Uganda. Since 2017, Raising Teenagers Uganda has been hosting annual hikes that are aimed at breaking the stigma around menstruation for school going girls and out of school adolescents in rural communities of Uganda.
This year’s edition was historic, with simultaneous hikes in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania and this symbolizes the growing solidarity for menstrual health equity. While in Tororo, we engaged with the community, combining physical challenge with advocacy to raise awareness on menstrual health and hygiene (MHH) and to distribute dignity kits to vulnerable girls at St. Theresa Primary School.
Below are the objectives for the campaign;
- Create awareness about the benefits of keeping girls in school until they complete their education.
- Create an opportunity for the private sector, individuals and other partners to support vulnerable girls.
- To actively involve the legislators in the campaign to End Menstrual Stigma and advocate for provision of free sanitary pads to Girls that cannot afford them.
- Raise awareness about menstruation and its impact on girls’ education
- Support vulnerable girls in Tororo with sanitary pads
The target audience for the campaign were:
- School going girls in Tororo.
- Out of school adolescent girls.
- Teachers, community leaders and parents.
- Youth advocates, child champions and development partners.
Our campaign brought together 88 hikers from different organizations, organizations, private sector, community members and advocates. Over 200 girls at St. Theresa Primary School received dignity kits, addressing both access and education meaning they will be able to stay in school even on their menstruating days.
