
Legal Empowerment Training
Name of Organisation: Just Like My Child Foundation-Uganda
Legal Empowerment Training (9th May 2025): This three-day program trains community volunteers to know the law, use the law and shape the law and be in position to support their communities in preventing children’s rights violations and establish referral linkages to respond to violence. The training aims to change harmful social, cultural, and religious norms, as well as patriarchal beliefs that affect the community.
The training is conducted in school communities where the Girl Power Project® is implemented. This year, 45 people completed the training from 6 sub counties of Luwero, Nakaseke and Nakasongola. Topics discussed include children’s rights, domestic violence, marriage and divorce, succession/will among others. During these training, guest speakers from the Community, Police and Health department in Luwero talked on topics as follows. Police talked about the law on domestic violence, steps that can be taken when reporting abuse and violence cases.
Health workers talked about sexual violence and procedures to follow while supporting survivors of sexual abuse, they also talked about HIV/AIDs urging the community, especially the young people to be vigilant as the new infections continue to increase amongst them. Community Legal Volunteers shared their experiences and best practices with the new CLVs and gave them tips on how to handle cases in their communities.
