
Menstrual Hygiene Day (MHD)

MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY (28th MAY 2025). Menstrual Hygiene Day (MHD) is an annual global advocacy day to promote good menstrual health and hygiene for all women and girls. On May 28, 2025, Just Like My Child foundation (JLMC) supported 11 community volunteers from the school community of St. Peters’ Semyungu Primary School in Makulubita sub county, Luwero District to participate in the celebration of MHD.
The celebrations were held at St. Peters Semyungu p/s and boys and girls from five other schools; of Shalom PS, Davenut Benedecido PS, Arise PS, St. Paul Kagogo, and Crane Academy took part. They shared the around menstruation, changes that happen to their bodies, promoting sustainable hygiene practices, breaking taboos, and how to address challenges that come with menstruation.
The celebration brought together a total of 237 participants including 111 adolescent girls ,51 boys from P.4 to P.7 and 75 parents. All these groups got the opportunity to hand sew reusable pads from the local resources. 100 reusable pads were distributed to girls that participated in the event and 12 years and above. Different fruit trees were also planted as a campaign towards climate action.

- To normalize conversations about menstruation, dispel myths and misconceptions, reduce the shame and embarrassment associated with menstruation.
- To educate girls, boys and adults about proper hygiene practices, and the importance of self-care during menstruation.
- To ensure that menstruation does not become a barrier to girls’ education, enabling them to attend school consistently and reach their full academic potential.
- To involve parents, teachers, local leaders, and boys in supporting girls’ menstrual health and creating a more supportive environment.
