“Pad the Girl Child” Campaign
Name of Organisation: Toto Africa Initiative Uganda
From January to June 2025 , Toto Africa Initiative Uganda implemented the Pad the Girl Child Re-usable Pads Distribution Program in Ngora District, tackling menstrual poverty as a driver of school absenteeism, dropout, early marriage, and teenage pregnancy. We reached 18 schools and community groups with structured awareness sessions (including a community radio talk show that awarded) and distributed 2,300 reusable pad kits to schoolgirls.
Toto Africa Initiative Uganda actively participates in GNBU Eastern Region meetings, contributing to discussions on aligning grassroots interventions with the National Strategy to End Child Marriage and Teenage Pregnancy. Our input emphasized menstrual health education and entrepreneur as a core strategy for keeping girls in school, shared lessons from our Pad the Girl Child program, and explored collaboration opportunities with other GNBU member organizations.

Contribution to ending child marriage & teenage pregnancy: By ensuring reliable access to menstrual products and accurate MHM education, the intervention reduces absenteeism, improves retention, and keeps girls on track in school protective factors that lower vulnerability to early marriage and unintended pregnancy. The program also shifts community attitudes through teacher/parent involvement and public dialogue (radio), and links to economic empowerment via partnerships and women’s groups, strengthening the environment that enables girls to remain in school and realize their potential.
