Parental engagement and Child Rights Campaign
Parental engagement and Child Rights Campaign at Rubango Primary School, Kyenjojo District. Asante Africa Foundation, in alignment with the commitment to promoting child rights and combating barriers to education, Child Rights Campaign was conducted at Rubango Primary School in Kyenjojo District in November with 130 pupils attending (80 male,50 female) as well 98 parents (55female, 44 male) attended.
This school has been facing significant challenges, including high rates of absenteeism and school dropouts. Through initial assessments, it was determined that these issues were largely due to the reluctance of parents to prioritize education for their children. Instead, children were often kept in the gardens to work, and young girls were at risk of early marriages, preventing them from continuing their education.
In response to these challenges, Asante Africa Foundation through the program coordinator took the initiative to organize a child rights campaign aimed at sensitizing both students and parents about the importance of education, children’s rights, and the roles they each play in ensuring that children can access and thrive in school.
The campaign was conducted with the support of key local authorities, including the District Probation Officer of Kyenjojo and an officer from the Child and Family Protection Unit (CFPU) of the police in Kyenjojo.
Location: Rubango Primary school, Kyenjojo District.
