Q2 Newsletter message from the Secretariat

 Dear Partners and Patrons,

Warmest greetings from Child Rights Empowerment and Development Organization (CEDO), the National Secretariat for Girls Not Brides Uganda- the National Partnership to end child marriage.

We are writing to share exciting news about the recent successes made possible by your collective work under Girls Not Brides Uganda, the National Partnership to end Child marriage.

The teamwork, flexibility and support exhibited by the GNBU steering committee has eased the work of the secretariat as key decisions are reached at within record time, which has always resulted into timely execution of work. We have for example fulfilled our reporting obligations with Girls Not Brides: the Global partnership to end child marriage, in time because of the timely review and approval of reports by the steering committee and implemented the GNBU annual work plan as guided.

A big thank-you to all those who have paid their annual membership fees and we invite those who haven’t, to kindly act. Paying up secures your access to a range of exclusive benefits like special considerations to participate in key events and selection for professional development opportunities whenever they come up. It also provides stable funding for the coordination of the partnership, and it helps us increase member engagement and satisfaction.

Kudos to the lively GNBU membership for always keeping us looped into the work you do by inviting us to participate in your activities, and sharing of periodic reports. With this, we are able to share what you do with the entire membership, government, other actors and stakeholders, locally and beyond.

It is through continuous reporting that everyone gets a unified understanding of the progress of the work we do as individual organizations and as a partnership, but most of all, the much we’re doing to pursue our common goal – to end child marriage and teenage pregnancies in Uganda through collaborative efforts at community, district, regional, and national levels. It also helps members to feel more connected to our joint work, enabling more effective collaboration, and allowing for better decision-making across the entire fraternity.

Distinctive thanks go to our co-chairs, Lady Joyce Nakato (UYAHF) and Lady Phoebe Kasoga (Plan International) for the strategic guidance – overseeing secretariat’s operations and ensuring the partnership’s mission is met by leading meetings, representing GNBU internally and externally, and fostering collaboration among members. We have no doubt that at the pace you’ve set, we project lots of victories for our partnership.

In this part of the year, GNBU applied for and received a £168,300 Advocacy and Influencing strategy grant through Girls Not Brides; the Intentional Partnership to end Child Marriage, supported by UNICEF and UNFPA as part of the global program to end child marriage. This will last up to July 2027.

We wish to let you know that GNBU is ably represented on the National Inter-Ministerial Steering Committee on Child wellbeing and is part of the National Child protection working group. With this achievement, we must be proud to play a part in coordinating a multisectoral response to child wellbeing, allowing for integrated planning, policy development, and the effective implementation of child protection measures across Uganda. We are committed to expanding GNBU’s reach, influence and contribution to nation building. Thanks to government and all other stakeholders to embracing us.

CEDO, the National Secretariat for GNBU, invites you to enjoy reading this inspiring newsletter. This edition features insights from the very members of GNBU—a must-read for anyone in and out of our network.
