Three Community dialogues on male engagement to end teenage pregnancy

Name of Organisation: Women’s Probono Initiative (WPI)

We convened three community dialogues, two at the local level (Nsambya Kirombe Grounds on 26 March 2025 and Luwero Apartments Hotel on 4 April 2025, and one national-level dialogue (Hilton Garden Inn Hotel on 16 April 2025), bringing together 150 stakeholders to address teenage pregnancy and early marriage through a male engagement strategy.

The discussions emphasized the vital role of men and boys in promoting gender justice, with participants highlighting the importance of fathers in building girls’ confidence, and male caregivers in normalizing conversations around menstruation and sexual and reproductive health.

Outcome: The dialogues also served as platforms to challenge patriarchal norms that fuel child marriage and to reaffirm collective responsibility in advancing girls’ rights. As a result, participants pledged to drive locally led solutions, including the development of community by-laws, the establishment of father-daughter mentorship initiatives, and the strengthening of gender councils.

Activity Address: Nsambya Kirombe Grounds, Luwero Apartments Hotel and Hilton Garden. Contact Person: Rahom Maria Bukirwa
