Using Music, Dance, and Drama to Champion Girls’ Education
Name of Organisation: Mentoring and Empowerment Programme for Young Women – MEMPROW
Following our recent teacher trainings (On safe guarding and Girls protection) and teacher-led school dialogues in Nebbi District, a local primary school (Adwongu Primary) one of the schools whose teachers have been supported by the Mentoring and Empowerment Programme for Young Women (MEMPROW), has continued to bring together learners, parents, and community leaders in different trading centers in a vibrant showcase of music, dance, and drama by students to advocate for the importance of keeping girls in school and ending early unions.
Through powerful performances, the pupils creatively convey messages about the value of education, the dangers of early marriage, and the collective responsibility to ensure every girl completes her education. The event not only raised awareness but also inspired action, mobilizing parents to support their daughters’ education and encouraging girls who had dropped out to re-enroll. This approach proved especially effective in breaking down barriers between generations.
And using familiar cultural expressions, the school created a safe space for dialogue, where parents could voice their concerns, teachers could address common myths, and girls could share aloud about the futures they want. The result was a renewed commitment from the community to protect and promote girls’ right to education. MEMPROW is proud to champion such grassroots, teacher-led initiatives that turn creativity into a substance for change because when girls are educated, their families, communities, and the nation all benefit.
NB: This is a continuous engagement being organized and led by teachers, and so far, 500 people have been reached through the 03 presentation done so far.
