Our Own Desire Nalwoga (Hard of hearing) joins Uganda Martrys University
Name of Organisation: Mpigi Women with Disabilities Association
We congratulate Desire a girl with hearing impairment. We have supported her to stay in school as strategy for ending child marriage. In the year 2022, we bought for her Hearing Aids to enable her listen well to the content taught in class. Despite the negative attitude from able bodied children in her community because of her hearing impairment, we encouraged her to ignore and continue with her studies.
She performed well at Advanced Level with 17 points but did not benefit from government scholarship because she had not filled JAB forms which was a pre- requisite for one to be considered for government scholarship. We tried to look for scholarships in 2024 but failed. We did not give up. In 2025, we made a courtesy visit to Uganda Martyrs University for any opportunity and fortunately it was time for Master Card Foundation application for scholarships.
We supported Desire to apply and followed up all the processes. She made it and she is at Campus pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration and Management. She is very excited to be at the university and determined to learn. We appreciate Uganda Martyrs University for being inclusive and for putting in place resources that enable learners with disabilities to ensure their academic success.
