Campaign on Ending Child Marriage and Teenage pregnancies

Concern for the Girl Child (CGC) has implemented multiple interventions to prevent child marriages and teenage pregnancies, focusing on education, community sensitization, health awareness, economic empowerment, and advocacy.

These activities are designed to protect and empower young girls, ensuring they stay in school and make informed life choices.

Objectives:

  1. To reduce child marriages and teenage pregnancies by keeping girls in school.
  2. To equip girls with life skills and sexual reproductive health (SRH) knowledge.
  3. To engage community leaders, parents, and churches in changing harmful societal norms.
  4. To provide economic empowerment opportunities for families to reduce financial pressures leading to early marriages.
  5. To create safe spaces where girls can access psychosocial support, mentorship, and legal services.

Target Group:

  • Girls at risk of child marriage and teenage pregnancy.
  • Parents and caregivers.
  • Religious and cultural leaders.
  • Schools and community stakeholders.

Numbers Reached:

  • Education Support: 164 girls sponsored to stay in school in the year 2024
  • Tusobola Community Sensitization Campaigns: 3 campaigns held in the year 2024, reaching hundreds of community members.
  • Legal Clinics: 2 legal clinics conducted to provide legal empowerment and justice.
  • Advocacy and Policy Influence: Engaged in 3 advocacy forums (two at the district level, one at the local council level) through UCRNN and GNBU.
  • Psychosocial Support & Safe Spaces: Provided SRH talks, counseling, and mentorship to girls, creating safe spaces for discussions.
  • Economic Empowerment: Trained girls and families in financial literacy, savings, and livelihood skills to foster economic independence.
  • Mentorship and awareness Campaigns: 306 girls in the Community were mentored plus over 1000 community members sensitised about dangers of teenage pregnancy and Ending child marriage
