Concern for the Girl Child (CGC) is a Ugandan NGO founded in 2001 by Dr. Ann F. Hayes and the late Freddie Henry Kasozi. It was established to address the widespread marginalization of girls, particularly in Kampala, Nakawa Division, Luweero, and Nakaseke districts. CGC takes a holistic approach to empowering vulnerable girls by supporting them through their educational journey and addressing issues like defilement, exploitation, and abuse.
CGC’s programs provide quality education, sexual and reproductive health information, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) support. The organization also focuses on strengthening families economically, protecting children, and advocating for girls’ rights. Since its founding, CGC has supported 1,345 girls in education, partnering with schools and institutions to assist over 141 girls annually. It has reached more than 40,000 people through child protection programs with civil society partners.
Through its Safe Space Approach, CGC has empowered over 497 adolescent girls, both in and out of school, by equipping them with life skills and emotional support. These efforts have significantly increased school enrollment and completion rates among girls in CGC’s communities, advancing gender equality and the rights of children, particularly girls.
