Amani Initiative
Description
Amani Initiative, founded in Uganda in 2012, is a grassroots non-profit organization dedicated to preventing and responding to harmful practices affecting children and women. Headquartered in Maracha District, the organization operates across Uganda, emphasizing community-led interventions to create sustainable solutions.
Amani Initiative’s approach integrates health facilities, schools, and community change agents in a low-cost, high-impact model that promotes gender inclusivity, human rights, and social justice. Its strategic plan for 2023-2027 focuses on addressing teenage pregnancy and child marriage through four key areas: socioeconomic empowerment, education, child protection and safeguarding, and adolescent and maternal health. The organization works with various stakeholders, including educators, parents, and children, to promote quality education, financial literacy, mentorship, health services, and child protection.
The organization is currently implementing a 5 year strategic plan running from 2023 to 2027 with a vision of a Ugandan society free from teenage pregnancy and child marriage and mission to prevent and respond to teenage pregnancy and child marriage through integrated community-led interventions.
By 2027, Amani Initiative aims to positively impact 1.5 million people and empower 50 community change agents, with a strong focus on enhancing community efforts and institutional capacity. Its overarching mission is to build a Ugandan society free from teenage pregnancy and child marriage through integrated community-led interventions. The organization’s objectives include strengthening prevention efforts, boosting access to essential services, and reinforcing institutional capabilities to create long-term change in the fight against these harmful practices.
